UNEP FI 2009 Global Roundtable 'Financing change, Changing finance'
22-23 October 2009
Cape Town, South Africa
The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Global Roundtable is the largest global conference exploring sustainable finance and responsible investment. From 22-23 October, 2009, more than 500 bankers, insurers, investors, joined by government and civil society participants, will gather in Cape Town to explore the latest global and regional developments as well as plotting the road ahead for sustainable finance. Building on previous successes in Melbourne, New York, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Frankfurt, UNEP FI now brings this agenda-setting global event to Africa.
Amid the global financial and economic crisis, the Cape Town Roundtable has become even more timely and relevant as the financial sector reassesses its thinking and practices. Moreover, 2009 is a critical year to produce a new global climate agreement with the UNFCCC conference this coming December and where on the road to Copenhagen the Cape Town Roundtable will help frame discussions on international climate policy that will have resounding impacts on the financial sector and international carbon markets.
International and African financiers will be in Cape Town this October to shape the new global thinking and debate the challenges and opportunities around the following themes of sustainable finance:
- Responsible investment and property investment
- Sustainable banking
- Low-carbon economy
- Financing for sustainable development
- Sustainable insurance
- Transparency, reporting and accountability
- Micro finance
- Valuing natural capital
- Finance and water
